The Ryal was a Scottish Coin in use when James VI of Scotland acceded to the English Throne in 1603 The Ryal was used extensively during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots and Scottish pennies were a smaller currency.

Chief Secretary to the UK Treasury Mr Danny Alexander said at Holyrood on 19th February 2014 that if Scotland eventually joined the Euro,or entered into agreement to peg its currency to the Pound Sterling, this would require the establishment of a new Scottish Currency. Professor Gavin McGrone, a former chief economists at the Scotland Office, said that a new Scottish State could follow the example of the Republic of Ireland When it Split from the UK in 1922, by establishing its own currency, pegged to the Pound, but sooner rather than later a Scottish Government would find it necessary to set up its own Central Bank as lender of last resort, which would have the Power to issue its Own Currency. Ian Johnstone of the Independent Newspaper made reference to the 16th Century Scottish Ryal as a coinage option

This coin collection features Sir William Wallace, Robert Burns and the Famous Cutty Sark bult on the Clyde in 1869. The Royal portrait is not featured, as the coins of several nations where Queen Elizabeth II is head of State do not bear her image. And this is part of numismatic design which must be decided upon by a futre issuing authority.

The purpose of this collection is to show that a new currency for Scotland could be Vibrant and attractive.
