Frederick Charles Gunning Campbell was born 11 August 1887 in Murree, Punjab. Trinity College, Perthshire 1900. Sandhurst 1906. Commissioned 19 January 1907, Seaforth Highlanders in India. Transferred to the 40th Pathans 1908. Studied Russian in England 1914. Mobilised with the 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusliers and to France August 1914. Joined the Pathans 1915 and went to East Africa December 1915, was wounded and MID 7th February 1915. Posted for service with Mohmand Militia and Frontier Constabulry. Commandant Kurram Militia. Awarded then Military Cross 1 January 1916. Captain September 1915, Major January 1922. Retired 21 August 1930. Served with the Postal Censorship Department in Liverpool and then transferred to London. He was killed 24 September 1940 in a German air raid, when his home at 14 Trebovir Road, London was bombed. He is buried at Kensington Metropolitan Borough Cemetery.
