Born in Chelsea in London in 1820
enlisted in September 1841 Occupation listed as Servant. Shortly after becoming a soldier, he was tried and sentenced to forty days impisonment. remainder of service was without blemish.
He served in the Cape of Good Hope for 11 years and 2 months. Took part in the Kaffir War of 1850-3; issued medal for same. He then proceeded to India with the Regiment, fought in the battle of Bardown near Ingdesan under Colonel Corfield for which he gained another Medal this for the India Mutiny.
He was invalided to England on the 17th of November 1858
After 21 years and 318 days service. He was discharged at Colchester Camp on 11th August 1863.
