William Hannah was born in 1880 in Dalrymple, Ayrshire Prior to enlisted he was a joiner and worked 5 years for James McCreath.
He attested for short service for 1 Year and went to South Africa to fight in the Boer War with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
The Battalion left with 3 Officers and 108 men. 16 of these left to serve with Scottish Horse.
He was discharged on the 15th of June 1901
