Born in London 21st June 1867, Son of Henry Thomas De La Bere of Kinnersely Castle, Hereford.
Educated at Dulwich College 1877 to 1885 and went on to The Royal Military College Sandhurst in 1885
Commissioned into The Royal Scots Fusiliers. Posted to Fermoy Ireland. Further stations included Birr and Dublin.
Appointed Lieut Instructor at school of musketry Hythe 1890-1895. Promoted Captain embarked with the Battalion for India in 1896 Partcipated in operations until 1898.
Returned to UK to the depot in Ayr
Served in France and Belgium during the Great War
Held temporary command of the Battaion from November 1914 following their heavy loses earlier in The Month against the Prussian Guard at Ypres
Promoted Lt Col 31st Jan 1915 served with the Battalion in the Trenches between Ypres and La Bassee. Later fell sick and had to be replaced. Posted to India saw further service in the North West Frontier . Appointed an Officer of the British Empire in recognition of valuable services during the War.
